How Canva's 'Background Remover' tool blows our minds...

I’ve been a designer for over 20 years, so I’m well versed in cutting out images in Photoshop.

In fact I could tell you that there are multiple complex and time consuming ways of doing this - so when I saw Canva's one-click Background Remover tool I only had one thing to say...

"HOW DOES IT... KNOW?!"

Yes, the best tool in Canva is SUPER smart. Give it an image and it'll find what it thinks the subject should be and cleverly cut around it, removing the background.

In the case of this coffee cup, it's even identified the gap in the handle and cut that out too!

But how does it work on people? Or multiple subjects?

It's still pretty good:

✅ It does a good job of identifying hair and softening the cutout (so it doesn't look 'jagged' or unnatural)

✅ It'll generally understand if two items are clearly the subjects of the image

In fact, you have to work pretty hard to break it!

And it literally is one-click. Select the image and click 'Background Remover' (OK two-clicks if you're being picky 😒)
